So tonight I want to use some more common objects and talk about how they point to matters of a Christ flower’s life. Tonight I specifically ant to talk to you about the words that we speak.

Does anyone have an idea about how many words an average person speaks each day?
Answer: Previous research by Louann Brizendine at the University of California found that women speak an average of 20,000 words daily compared to only 7,000 words for men. This means that on average, women talk nearly three times as much as men. Feb 22, 2013
Think about that - either way that’s a lot of words.
How many positive words does it take to overcome a negative comment?
Answer: , 2013 - The average ratio for the highest-performing teams was 5.6 (that is, nearly six positive comments for every negative one). The medium-performance teams averaged 1.9 (almost twice as many positive comments than negative ones.)

The Bible Knowledge Commentary 4:29–30
4:29–30. Believers are not to speak unwholesome (sapros, “rotten”) words (cf. 5:4), but helpful (agathos, “good, beneficial”; cf. 4:28) words for the purpose of edification. Good words benefit (lit., “give grace” or enablement to) the hearers. One’s words are to be true and pure and also are to contribute to benefiting others. Besides one’s conscience, the Holy Spirit also helps guard a believer’s speech. The fact that the Holy Spirit may be grieved points to His personality. His seal of a believer remains until the day of redemption, the time that a believer receives his new body (cf. 1:14; Phil. 3:20–21).
The trashcan: Sometimes our works are filthy, just like this filthy trashcan. No one wants to be around us. Sometimes the words we speak are as useless as garbage in building others up.
The mirror: Our words reflect what’s in our hearts - whether good or bad. Our words can reflect what God thinks about a person. Our words can show someone what is inside of them, even if they don’t see it. Our words reflect the level of our relationship with God.

The gift: Our words can be a gift of encouragement in the lives of others. Just as people treasure certain gifts, our words can be treasures in people’s hearts- things they will hold on to when they are discouraged and lonely. Our words can bring a smile to someone’s day. Our words of encouragement are a gift of God to others.
